Part 2 A
Observe:
In this picture I see 4 kids from Alabama. The first thing that
caught my eye was that they were all not wearing shoes.
The people look like they range from 4-10 years old. The
setting seems like a decent day. There are no words in this
picture that I could see myself. Another this that I noticed was
that the one boy looks like he's so angry. Also, the 2 little kids
are looking at him and smiling, which made no sense to me.
Reflect:
I'm actually not to sure why this image was made, maybe
someone just wanted to take a picture of their children.
In this image they aren't doing much, they obviously
know that they're getting their picture taken and are being
normal and smiling. I think this picture was made a very
long time ago. I think this because the picture is in black
and white so it has to be before color pictures were made.
If someone made this picture today they would most
likely be wearing shoes and definitly not those clothes.
Also, the picture would be in color.
Question:
I honestly wonder who those people are and why they're
taking this picture. I wonder what they're doing in this
picture and what they're going to do with it. I wonder
when it was taken place and if they were that little
percent that could actually buy cameras. I also wonder
how they took this picture because back then they
obviously didn't have cameras that we have today.

Observe:
In this picture I see a lot of people just hanging out
around some store, I think. The first thing i noticed was the
people standing around. the people that are shown look
older than the kids in the last picture. They're all sitting or
standing next to eachother pretty much. I see words on the
sign that I think say tading post, but i'm not sure. It
also says retailm whole sale, eggs, and that's all I could
really make out. There's also a coca cola sign, I guess it
big in those days.
Reflect:
I actually don't exactly know the reason this picture was taken.
Maybe to show what the stores are like. Nothing exciting is
really happening in this picture. I think there was a lot of
people standing around, considering it's just outside of a
store. I could learn that the clothing back then was just so
different. Also, the way the stores were are very different too.
If someone made this picture today it obviously wouldn't be
black and white and the stores would be different. There
were be a lot of cars around instead of people walking around.
Question:
I would want to know who those people are, what they're doing
just standing around outside of a store. When this was taken
place andwhy they were taking this picture. I also wonder
how they took this picture.

Observe:
What I see in this picture is a Coca Cola store. What I noticed
first was that it looked very old. I also noticed that there was
absolutely no one there. There's no people shown, but there's
obviously a store there. The setting seems to be in the middle
of kind of no where. I see the words coca cola and that's about it.
I could also see that there's advertisements on and around the
store.
Reflect:
I think this image was made to show how popular coca cola was
back in the day. There's not much happening in this picture. I think
this picture was made a long time ago, considering it's all black
and white. What's missing from this image is people, usually there's
atleast a couple of people at a store.
Question:
I wonder why someone took this picture, why they took it the way
they did. Who took this picture, and is there supposed to be a
reasoning behind this. I wonder where this was at the time, also
what point in time it was.
Part 2 B
- Larger images available only at The Library of Congress
Observe:
What I see is a sign that is telling the colored people, or the
black people to go into a different waiting room than the
white people. What I notice first is that this has to be really
old because there is no longer segrigation in America.
The words I see say, "colored waiting room." Another detail
that I notice is that it's pointing in the other direction.
Reflect:
I think this image was made to show that there's no more
racism any longer. You could obviously tell that this picture
was taken a while ago considering the picture is black and
white. If someone would be to make this today it wouldn't
ever say that at all. I'm pretty sure you could get arrested
for a hate crime like this one. I guess things were a lot
different back then.
Question:
I would wonder why they took this picture, maybe to show
how different things are now a days. But, i'm not too sure.
I would also wonder who took this picture, because it was
from a long time ago. I wonder where this was, because
you can't really tell from this at all. I wonder how they took
it too because cameras and such were so different back then.
Theatre in Leland, Mississippi
Observe:
I see that this is a very small, not used very often theatre for,
"colored," people. The first thing I noticed is that it said colored
people. The next thing I noticed was that there was no one there
what so ever. It looked small, and not really nice. I think that
they did this for a reason because white people got everything
that was much better and high class.
Reflect:
I think this image was made a long time ago just like the other
image I just wrote about. I think this because of the whole
colored thing and how that's so mean and disrespectful now
a days. There would be nothing the same about this picture
because 1 it's small and not very nice, 2 colored and white
people share the same theatre.
Question:
I wonder where this picture was taken because it could
honestly be anywhere because places now a days always
have to have at least one or two cars parked somewhere
and this place just looks abandoned. I also wonder if a
white or a black person took this picture. Because if a
black person took this I think they wouldn't ever want to
go into it because that's such segrigation.
Signs behind the bar, in Birney, Montana
Observe:
I could see that there is a rule that you can't sell beer to the
Indians. I honestly thought that there was only segrigation
with black people, I guess not. I also see that they do not
give credit or loan money, so people shouldn't ask. They
honestly seem a bit harsh. This looks like it's been taken
in a bar or resturant of some sort.
Reflect:
I think this image was made to show that the colored people
weren't the only ones getting beat up on little things such
as this. I bet the black people just couldn't get beer anywhere
I wonder why it's just this store or resturant that won't allow
Indians?
Question:
I wonder who that lady was in this picture. I wonder how this
photo was taken, where exactly it was and how long ago it
was because obviously it was a while ago. I wonder who took
this picture and what they were trying to show.
